The school was establish in the year 2008, and the academic year 2008-09 was started with class VI. This school is totally Residential School. The school management is headed by District Magistrate North, Sikkim.Eklavya Model Residential School Swayam is established under the provision of Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs Govt. of India, under the supervision of Social Justice and Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim. The objectives of establishing the EMRS is to facilitate the Tribal students belonging to underprivileged and unreached area from North and East District of Sikkim to avail quality and free education.
